2008 Fall Three Oaks -- a preliminary report from Avery Road
11/15/08

Michigan Team-1 members:

It ain't pretty. Today's high was in the 40's, the sky was cloudy, and it rained & sleeted on and off. Worst of all, the wind out of the north was considerable, often blowing over 20 MPH. In spite of all that, a surprisingly large number of rocket enthusiasts showed up anyway.

Because of field conditions, the decision was made to not set up launch operations in the normal location east of Avery Road. Instead, we set up the D cell and one high power pad on the west side of Avery Road slightly north of the normal site's access road. Parking was on the east side of Avery Road itself.

In spite of the weather, we managed to fly about 10 low power rockets. Late in the afternoon, just before trailering the equipment, a flyer certified Level 1 with an H motor! Probably a contender for the distinction of certifying under some of the most unfavorable certification flying conditions Team-1 has had.

Tomorrow's forecast is: snow showers, high 37 degrees, winds W at 15 to 25 MPH, precipitation 60%.
